answers to your questions

What experience do I need before joining the Diploma?

The Diploma in Fine Jewellery is designed for jewellers who are ready to move into more advanced techniques and materials. Most students progress from our Diploma in Silver Jewellery, but you can also join if you already have equivalent experience. The experience you need by the start of the course in September 2026 is listed below.

You should be confident with the following skills:
• Understanding of basic jewellery workshop practice, tools and materials
• Experience using pickle safely
• Ability to solder multiple joins confidently
• Experience with several stone setting techniques including tube, claw, bezel and flush setting
• Making at least one collet setting (if you haven’t tried collet setting you could take our online course before the start of the Diploma in September https://www.jewellersacademy.com/collet-setting)
• Experience working with gold

We ask for this prior experience because the course begins with the assumption that you already have these skills. Techniques covered in the Diploma in Silver Jewellery are not repeated in this programme.

If you are earlier in your jewellery journey, we recommend starting with the Diploma in Silver Jewellery before applying for this course.

Materials and tools
A full tools and materials list is provided before ordering, allowing you to check what you already own and what you may need to purchase.

Our top tip is to order the materials pack for a number of reasons.

Firstly, we sourced the materials around a year ago and we have not increased the price based on increasing metal prices. We sell out of these kits each year and expect to sell out of our stock of kits on this course earlier than usual.

Secondly, it makes it easier to just get started on the projects each week without having to order the materials. Our warehouse team cut and bag up all your metals and label them by week so all you have to do is open the bag for the week to get started.

Currently, you can also spread the cost of the materials kits over 18 months.

Materials order deadline
To spread the cost of the course and materials over 18 months, you must enrol by 13th March 2026. Materials packs are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so early enrolment is recommended.

How do monthly payments work?
If you choose a payment plan, your first payment is taken on the day you enrol. Monthly payments are then taken on the same date each month.

Assessment
This is a practical, project-based course. There are no written essays. Assessment is based on your jewellery submissions, with a short written explanation of your inspiration for the final project.

You are required to send your work to us at the end of each term to our warehouse in London, UK. You cover the cost of sending the work to us and we cover the costs for sending it back to you.

Creative freedom
Each project has clear marking criteria, but within that framework you are encouraged to develop your own designs and creative ideas. Your final project is entirely your own design and is intended to showcase your skills and personal style.

Course pricing

The course fee is £3278 and that is the same wherever you are in the world.

If you add the materials pack, there is a difference in pricing which is dependent on your location - international shipping and customs considerations. Full pricing details and payment options can be found here.
