Week of Wax
A FREE 5-day introduction to wax carving for jewellery
Curious about wax jewellery but not sure where to start?
Week of Wax is a FREE, beginner-friendly 5-day online course designed to help you explore wax carving - whether you’ve never touched wax before or you’re ready to challenge yourself with new project ideas.
Starting on Monday 2nd February 2026, with a project going live every week day, you’ll learn how wax works, how to shape it, and how to turn ideas into wearable jewellery without the need to invest in expensive materials or be under pressure to get it right first time.
Why wax?
Wax carving is one of the most flexible, creative, and accessible ways to design jewellery.
Wax is affordable, forgiving, and ideal for experimentation
You can design entire collections before committing to metal
You don’t need a full workshop - just a small space and basic tools
Once you have carved your wax and love your design, you can choose to get it cast into metal. This is optional and advice on this process and working with a caster in included in the notes for this course.
For many jewellers, wax opens up new creative freedom especially at a time when metal prices make experimentation feel risky.
What is Week of Wax?
Week of Wax is a free, professionally filmed, online course released over five days.
Each day, you’ll be guided through a different wax jewellery project by experienced jewellers and tutors. The focus is on learning by doing, building confidence, and discovering what you enjoy making.
You can follow along day by day, dip into the projects that interest you, or work through everything at your own pace.
Once you sign up, you’ll have ongoing access to the full course.
What are the projects?
Day 1 – Wax Carved Ring
You’ll start with one of the best beginner projects: a carved ring using wax tubes. You’ll learn how to shape, refine, and design a ring while getting comfortable with the process of carving. This is a structured, confidence-building introduction to working in wax.
Day 2 – Granulation in Wax
You’ll learn how to add texture and decorative detail using wax granules and a heat pen. This day also covers repairing wax, surface design, and how pieces are prepared for casting and clean-up.
Day 3 – Wax Charms
You’ll design and carve small wax charms that can become pendants, bracelet elements, or repeatable components in a jewellery collection. This project shows how wax carving can support building collections and creating versatile designs.
Day 4 – Build-Up Technique Heart Pendant
You’ll look at a different way of working with wax by melting and building it up rather than carving it away. This organic, playful technique is ideal for flowing forms, texture, and intuitive making.
Day 5 – Classic Signet Ring
You’ll finish the week with a more structured project: a traditional signet ring. This focuses on scale, proportion, symmetry, and precision, bringing together many of the skills you’ve developed throughout the week.
Who is this for?
Week of Wax is for you if you’re curious about wax carving but feel unsure where to start, want structure instead of a blank block of wax, would like to design jewellery without committing to expensive metal, enjoy learning through practical projects, or want to explore creatively without pressure.
You don’t need any previous wax carving experience although if you already work in wax, you’re welcome to join in, experiment, and share your work with the community.
