jewellery inspiration: 3 ring designs you can make from metal clay

Blog

Metal clay is an exciting and versatile way of working with precious metals and there is so much you can do. Here are three ring design styles you can make from metal clay.

  1. Wrap Ring

This ring design is made and fired flat and shaped after firing. It’s a versatile option that is great if you don’t know a person’s ring size or if you are making to sell your rings as size isn’t critical because the ring size is adjustable.

The design options are endless - the ends can bypass each other, the ends can meet, the ends can be cut at an angle or rounded etc

2. Flat band ring

A flat band ring is a continuous ring shank that is flat all the way around. In the photo above you can see some stacker flat band rings made from silver clay and embellished with fireable gemstones, moulded pieces, cut-out shapes etc.

This traditional style of ring can form a great base for your own unique style.

3. D-Profile Ring

A D-profile ring is flat on the inside and rounded on the outside. This design is great for adding embellishments or carving the clay before firing.
