What if I get stuck when I'm taking an online jewellery Diploma course?

One of the questions I get asked most often about our online Diploma courses is:

What do I do if I get stuck and need help?

So I thought I would address that.

Firstly, it doesn’t happen as often as you would think.

The reason for this is because our courses are professionally filmed. You get juicy close ups of exactly what is happening as well as the ability to rewind and rewatch as often as you like.

If you are attending a face to face class, you will see the tutor demonstrate something, go back to your bench to do it yourself, find you’ve forgotten a step and aren’t sure what to do so you have to ask. This doesn’t happen with an online course because you can review it anytime and you have step by step notes too.

We have also filmed some troubleshooting tips as part of the courses in order to help you with common stumbling blocks before they arise.

SUPPORT

If, however, you do find that something isn’t working for you, there’s a lot of support available.

Your first port of call is the Facebook group. Staffed by expert jewellers Monday to Saturday, you can describe the issue, share a photo of what is happening or even a little video from your phone. They are there to support you and give you advice on what to do to get unstuck.

Also in the group are your fellow students and you can guarantee that if you have struggled with something, others may have as well. When we’re learning new things it is inevitable. Your peers are also there ready to support you.

Every two weeks you have a live Zoom call with your tutor group. This is a small group of students plus your mentor and is an opportunity to ask questions. And every term, you have a one to one with your mentor. You can show them your pieces, show them what you’re doing and get support.

MOVE ON

Each week you get new content. If you really feel stuck, you can set the project aside and come back to it. A lot of times, that space from the project means that when you go back to it, the answer is there and the thing you struggled with works first time. But if you really need some help, make sure you go to your fortnightly call and ask for help there or at your termly one to one with your mentor.

One of the current Diploma students Niloo said it best:

“You're not alone. There are people you can talk to, you can get feedback, you can ask questions. It's nothing like other online classes I had taken before.”

We have a 99% success rate on our Diploma courses. This is unheard of in the online course industry but the reasons are:

  • The learning journey is planned. You have incremental learning meaning that you learn a skill and then build on and practice that skill while learning something new. At the end of the course you won’t recognise your abilities.

  • You are supported - from one to one mentoring, a supportive community private Facebook group and fortnightly small group calls there is always somewhere to go to help you keep moving

  • You have deadlines - you keep momentum and stay on track because you have something to work towards

  • Your work is assessed and you get feedback to help you improve

If you’re ready to go for it, don’t delay. We close for enrolment on Friday 13th June but we have limited kits left and we expect to sell these out before the deadline so if you want a kit, don’t delay.

If this is the right next step to you, you will be supported to ensure you succeed.
