10 Days of Silver: A Free Jewellery-Making Challenge to Start the Year (podcast episode)
In this week’s episode of the Jewellers Academy podcast, Jess is joined by tutor and jeweller Kelly Twigg to introduce one of our most loved annual events: 10 Days of Silver Jewellery.
Running for the third year in a row, 10 Days of Silver is a free, global jewellery-making challenge designed to help you get back to the bench, build your confidence, and rediscover the joy of making. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a more experienced jeweller feeling a little rusty after the holidays, this programme offers a relaxed, low-pressure way to create beautiful silver jewellery at the start of the year.
Listen now on:
Across ten guided projects over the course of 2 weeks, you’ll work through a wide range of core jewellery-making techniques, including soldering, piercing, stone setting, granulation, mixed metals and more. Projects include silver stacking rings, bar necklaces, cut-out pendants, stacking bangles, twisted hoop earrings, stone-set rings, jump ring bangles, metal inlay, granulated stud earrings and an introduction to claw setting as a final statement piece.
In the episode, Jess and Kelly talk through each project in detail, sharing why they’re so effective for building skills, confidence and creative momentum. They also explore how more experienced jewellers can use the projects as a springboard for developing their own designs, experimenting with textures, gemstones and mixed metals, and refining their personal style.
You’ll also hear practical advice on:
Easing back into making after a busy or disrupted period
Getting ‘quick wins’ at the bench to build motivation
Using affordable materials and scraps creatively
Learning techniques incrementally to protect your confidence (and your sanity!)
Why watching different tutors and approaches can transform your skills
10 Days of Silver is completely self-paced, with lifetime access once you sign up. You can follow along day by day, dip into the projects that excite you most, or spread them out over a longer period to suit your life and energy levels.
Throughout the episode, Jessica encourages listeners to share their work inside the Jewellers Academy Facebook group and on Instagram, reminding us that everyone starts somewhere and that creativity is always better when it’s shared.
If January feels a little heavy, this challenge is a gentle reminder that a bit of silver, a simple project, and a supportive community can make all the difference.
